Executive Board

Chairman- Shivani Maynard
I joined TTOTA to be a part of a group of OT's who shared my love, passion and enthusiasm for the profession. I also wanted to be part of a supportive network and to gain a greater understanding of what the field was like in Trinidad. TTOTA helps me stay abreast of the new and exciting opportunities or changes in OT nationally, regionally, and internationally. Whether it's professional or personal I feel like TTOTA has given me a great network of people I can turn to when faced with a challenge. To be on the executive means that I have an opportunity to make a positive change to this association. A change that will encourage growth, strength, and awareness for the association, the profession and the dedicated members.

I joined TTOTA because I love my profession and believe the benefits of occupational therapy should be available to all those in need. From the beginning TTOTA has been working hard to achieve this and has also provided me with a great network of professional support. I am excited to help establish the profession as a valuable one in the healthcare system, and in doing so, hope to create more opportunities to serve individuals and families who would benefit from OT.

TTOTA has been a big part of my life since returning home. I like the support and sense of community that it offers. Being on the executive symbolizes the opportunity to help this small group of professionals make the world of a difference, not only for occupational therapy, but for healthcare in Trinidad and Tobago.

The TTOTA has been instrumental in fostering cultural competence in students and clinicians in a profession where most of the research and practice models are derived from the global north. As a member of the first cohort of locally trained therapists, I joined TTOTA because it supports the growth of the profession by partnering with education programs and provides opportunities for professional development. I am excited to join in the task of promoting the profession and making our services available to all those who it will benefit.

As a newly locally trained Occupational Therapist. I have accepted to join the Trinidad and Tobago Occupational Therapy Association to help bring a local perspective on what is needed to help train OTs in Trinidad and Tobago and by extension the caribbean. The TTOTA has the potential to be the forefront in training new OTs from all over the Caribbean with their various initiatives. As such I am willing to volunteer to be a part of this cause.

Membership with the TTOTA provides a sense of community amongst our few but fierce OTs. As an association we are able to collaborate and enhance each others strengths to effect positive change on the accessibility of OT services in Trinidad and Tobago, and the Caribbean.

As the Founding Chair of the TTOTA, this is my fourteenth year of serving on the executive committee.  Looking back to see how far we have come, I am delighted to see the association grow and expand both in its numbers and influence over the years. I have served the profession in a variety of capacities locally and regionally, and am now focused on sustainably developing the future OT workforce through my continued executive position, and my work as the MSOT Programme Director at the University of the Southern Caribbean.  The OT future certainly looks bright!
